Four things to know this Friday

Hello, my lovelies. August 4th. Six years later and the weight of it doesn’t get lighter — it just changes shape. This year I went back to my conversation with my mom, may Allah bless her soul, listening to the fear in her voice, the uncertainty, the chaos of that day, and hearing myself on the other end trying to stay calm, trying to keep her reassured while I was falling apart inside. The Beirut port explosion took so much from so many of us, and six years on, not a single person has been held accountable. No justice. No answers. Just us, carrying it alone, going back to voice notes and trying to hold ourselves together while the people responsible carry on with their lives. I don’t have words for that. I just have the weight of it, ad the scar on my leg and in my heart.

On another note, the pace of everything has been insane. Which is honestly a double-edged thing. It’s exhausting, constant, no downtime. But it’s also where opportunities actually happen. You can’t be selective about every single thing. Saying yes to things, staying available, being the person who responds that’s where real work comes from.

I’m working on something new with Samir Kawas that I’m so excited about. And it came at exactly the right moment because the creative block I’ve been sitting in for a few weeks? It’s gone. Watching other people this week too, everyone’s suddenly productive again. Like something shifted.

F for Fashion / Beauty

Copenhagen Fashion Week celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and in just two decades it has grown from a regional fashion gathering into the unofficial fifth stop on the global fashion calendar, not to forget its street style. This season, running August 3–7 what was once synonymous with pared-back minimalism has evolved into something altogether more expressive, where thoughtful layering, bold colour, playful proportions and a commitment to conscious design coexist with effortless ease. 36 shows and here’s what happened on the runway.
Operasport designers Awa Malina Stelter and Stephanie Gundelach opened the week with a sunshine-filled garden runway; models in slip dresses, layers of cascading frills and capri denim made their way around a gravel runway, adorned in floral brooches, necklaces and a baby’s breath headpiece.
Anne Sofie Madsen’s collection was all about “the idea of imagining new possibilities”, where the clothes felt like a softer expression of typically bold Danish style.
Stem Sarah Brunnhuber’s zero-waste brand partnered with Ganni to create upcycled runway looks using deadstock fabrics. The brand’s signature weaving techniques create a textural dream, all made using 100% natural and biodegradable fibres including recycled cotton and Tencel Lyocell. Skall studio: Sisters Julie and Marie Skall presented their SS27 collection as a meditation on “the beauty of summer”. Despite a brief summer shower, the garden presentation felt perfectly in step with the collection’s relaxed spirit: bohemian, louche and effortlessly romantic.
By Malene Birger closed by supermodel Mona Tougaard and set against the evening light, the collection was a sophisticated turn of slack yet romantic silhouettes in a pared-back palette.
Taus ready-to-wear and demi-couture studio by Freyja Taus and Juho Lehiö explored “classic in lighter registers” shifting their signature upcycled and emotionally charged garments from darker expressions towards something lighter.
Ganni was praised for its vibrant color palette and eco-friendly materials, while Stine Goya emphasized playful prints and soft textures.
